Participants from the ESI included:
- Christoph Dellago, Director of the ESI and Professor of Computational Physics at the University of Vienna;
- Adrian Constantin, Member of the Scientific Council and incoming Director of the ESI, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Vienna; expert in nonlinear differential equations and the mathematical modelling of water waves;
- Michael Eichmair, Professor and Chair of Global Analysis and Differential Geometry at the University of Vienna; founder and director of the Mathematik macht Freude educational project;
- Dmytro Rzhemovskyi (University of Vienna).
The meeting featured a detailed discussion of prospects for cooperation between the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the ESI. In particular, the parties explored opportunities to engage Ukrainian universities in international scientific schools, facilitate the participation of young Ukrainian researchers in the Institute’s programmes, and establish long-term academic partnerships.
In addition, the meeting participants considered potential joint events to mark the International Day of Engagement in Science for Sustainable Development, proclaimed at the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference at the initiative of Stanislav Dovgyi. Particular attention was given to creating opportunities for Ukrainian school and university students to work in an international research environment, engage in cutting-edge research projects, and develop their own scientific initiatives.
The meeting demonstrated the parties’ mutual interest in deepening international cooperation and supporting talented young people. It marked an important step towards integrating Ukraine’s scientific and educational community into the European Research Area.
“I am sincerely grateful to my colleagues at the Erwin Schrödinger International Institute for Mathematics and Physics for their openness to dialogue, support, and willingness to develop joint initiatives. I am confident that our cooperation will be long-term and will provide a solid foundation for creating new opportunities for Ukrainian pupils, students, and early-career researchers,” emphasised Stanislav Dovgyi, President of the JASU.
The Erwin Schrödinger International Institute for Mathematics and Physics (ESI), founded in 1992, is a leading programme-oriented research centre at the University of Vienna (Universität Wien). Its mission is to advance research in mathematics, physics, and mathematical physics at the highest international level by fostering fruitful interaction among researchers from diverse disciplines, while also strengthening the scientific environment in Austria and across Europe. Each year, the Institute runs approximately six thematic research programmes, organises international workshops and scientific schools, and supports the Senior Research Fellows (SRF) and Junior Research Fellows (JRF) programmes, as well as the Research in Teams initiative, which creates favourable conditions for the development of new interdisciplinary collaborations.
